COVID-19 cases continue to climb in Thomas, Grady counties

As of Friday, more than 16,420 Thomas County residents, 37% of the population, have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, according to the state Department of Public Health. More than 35,280 doses of vaccine have been administered.

Grady County has had more than 16,470 vaccines administered, with more than 7,650 people, 31% of the population, being fully vaccinated.

The state Department of Public Health reports there have been 4,312 COVID-19 positive tests in Thomas County, with 119 deaths. There also have been 406 people hospitalized because of the novel coronavirus since the inception of the outbreak. 

Thomas County has recorded 343 new cases in the last two weeks, according to the state DPH. 

The state DPH has recorded 1,823 COVID-19 cases in Grady County, with 51 deaths and 199 hospitalizations attributed to the virus. The county has added 121 new cases in the last two weeks. 

Statewide, there have been more than 977,400 confirmed positive tests for COVID-19, leading to 18,942 deaths and more than 68,640 hospitalizations.

More than 9.78 million people have been tested for COVID-19 in the state, with a rate of 9.7% for positive results. 

Statewide, there have been 48,209 new COVID-19 cases in the last two weeks. 

The state has issued more than 9.1 million vaccinations, and 41% of all Georgia residents, more than 4.28 million people, have been fully vaccinated.
