THOMASVILLE — Three of the juveniles connected to auto crimes that started in July have now become repeat offenders after being involved in three more auto crimes.

While on intensive probation, the suspects allegedly stole a truck from a dealership on August 24.

The next day, according to authorities, the suspects were caught on surveillance video using the truck to steal two motorcycles from a local business on Big Star Drive.

“One of our patrol officers who had just received the (be on the lookout) for the stolen truck spotted the truck, which at that time it fled from the officers,” Toby Knifer, Thomasville Police Department Criminal Investigations Division commander, said.

Knifer said detectives spotted one of the juveniles on one of the stolen motorcycles in the North Martin Luther King Jr. Drive area and attempted to stop the vehicle, but it also fled.

Two of the juveniles were later arrested on North Dawson Street in possession of the second stolen motorcycle.

The last juvenile was arrested at their residence where officers recovered the other stolen motorcycle and truck.

The suspects remain at the Regional Youth Detention Center and are charged with multiple crimes, including theft of motor vehicles, entering autos and several traffic offenses.

Knifer said it’s been easy for the suspects to steal vehicles because they are unsecured.

“All vehicles that have ever been entered are again unlocked vehicles,” he said.

The auto crimes that occurred on streets with bird names referred to as “Bird City” are still being investigated.

Knifer encourages anyone with information leading to an arrest to call TPD at (229) 227-3302.
