Pope’s Museum to host a Country Christmas

Pope’s Museum invites everyone to their annual “Country Christmas at Pope’s Museum” to be held on Saturday, December 11 from 6-9 p.m. The evening will feature live music, refreshments, tours of the historic home and grounds and plenty of Christmas spirit for all who attend. Admission is $5 per person.

CHS Chorus to have Christmas concert

The Cairo High School Chorus will have its annual Christmas Concert on Monday, December 13 beginning at 7 p.m. This year’s concert is entitled “Choral Wonderland Opus 65’ and will be held in the sanctuary of the First United Methodist Church in Cairo.

Library offers tech help

Need help with your phone, tablet, laptop or other device? The Roddenbery Memorial Library invites you to stop by during Tech Tuesday, each Tuesday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. for assistance. Both appointments and drop-ins are welcome.

Grinch Night at the Zebulon Theater

The Historic Zebulon Theater will have a special “Grinch Night” on Thursday, December 16 at 6:15 p.m. They will be showing the “How The Grinch Stole Christmas” movie, along with punch and cookies and a special visit from the Grinch. Tickets are $5 and available at the box office or by calling 378-7405.

SRTC offers free GED classes

Southern Regional Technical Center is offering free GED classes in Cairo, both in person and online. The classes are taught by Christopher Hunt from 9 a.m.-6 p.m., Monday-Friday at no cost to students. These classes will help students pass the high school equivalency exam and improve their job opportunities. For more information, call 229-378-2909.

Be aware of officials inspecting property

Grady County has hired a qualified vendor, Georgia Mass Appraisal Solutions and Services (GMASS) to perform a total county-wide revaluation of property values, which will include commercial, industrial, residential and agricultural properties.  Personnel from the Grady County Tax Assessor’s Office and GMASS will be inspecting properties throughout Grady County beginning in January 2022 using vehicles which will be marked with the Grady County seal or GMASS seal.  If you have any questions, please call the Tax Assessor’s Office at 377-3325.

Autumn Story Walk now open

StoryWalk® is an innovative and delightful way for children and adults to enjoy reading and the outdoors at the same time. Laminated pages from a children’s book are attached to wooden stakes, which are installed along an outdoor path. Beginning at the front of the Grady Room, please stroll around the library and enjoy reading each page and follow the path directed to the next page in the story. StoryWalk® was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, VT and has developed with the help of Rachel Senechal, formerly of the Kellogg-Hubbard Library.

Grady County Memorial Log now available

The Grady County Ga Memorial Log is a public accessible registry of the names and service information of Grady County Citizens who have performed honorable active service in the United States military. Persons enrolled in the Log may be living or deceased, active or veteran. If you or a loved one is not currently enrolled, please contact the library for more information. The website is gradymilitary.net. Stop by the library to see the Veterans Day display of Grady County women who served in the military. 

Flu shots available

The Grady County Health Department has received shipments of the flu vaccine for the coming flu season and are recommending that residents receive them as soon as possible. Getting the flu shot before the end of October gives it a chance to reach full effectiveness before flu season reaches its full peak. The cost per dose is $30 but the Health Department will file insurance and most patients will not incur any out-of-pocket expense. For more information, contact the Grady County Health Department.

Storytime is back on a new day

The Roddenbery Memorial Library has announce that its popular Children’s Storytime is starting back on a new day! Join them every Thursday at 11 a.m. for a story followed by a cool craft you can take home. Children’s Storytime is for children ages 3-5.
