The Tik Tok challenge known as “American School Shooting Day” is encouraging initiation of school shootings and bombings Friday “for every school in the USA”.

While the viral post has prompted an increase in school security in all district schools, officials across the country agree that there is no credible threat.

“There’s no credible information that this is actually taking place. It’s one of those viral things that once it takes off, everybody is understandably concerned and worried about,” said Cpl. Crystal Parker, TPD spokesperson. “We just wanted to put the word out that we are aware of the trend and of the viral nature of it and that our school resource officers are being extra vigilant.”

Thomas County Schools will continue with normal school hours while Grady County Schools will continue with early releases around 12 noon for the Christmas break.

Thomas County Schools Superintendent Dr. Lisa Williams released a statement encouraging anyone who comes across suspicious activity to contact school administrators or Thomasville Police Department.

“If you or your child become aware of any potential threat posted to social media or anywhere else, please notify a school staff member, or if appropriate, law enforcement,” the statement read.
