THOMASVILLE — Both drivers in a two-vehicle nighttime crash are charged with a number of offenses. 

Primus McClain, the driver of a vehicle in which drugs and a loaded firearm were found, fled from the crash scene and surrendered later.

A police officer responded to the crash scene — at N. Martin Luther King Drive and West Walcott Street — a little after 10 p.m. Saturday and found an overturned vehicle with an injured, trapped driver. 

Mary Martin, the driver, was unable to exit the vehicle, a Thomasville Police Department incident report states. She was transported to Archbold Memorial Hospital where she was admitted for treatment of a leg injury.

According to the report, McCain was identified as the driver of the other vehicle and had his mother call police and say Martin was chasing him when the crash occurred. Martin was identified as the at-fault driver for failing to yield when turning left, not because she was chasing McClain’s vehicle.

A search of Martin’s vehicle produced an open container of rum and several smoked marijuana roaches on the car floor. A grinder and marijuana bud were found in Martin’s purse, the report states.

A bag of marijuana was found under the front passenger seat and the back passenger seat where an underage person was seated. The underage person was charged with misdemeanor marijuana possession.

Martin, 18, Thomasville, is charged with driving under the influence, driving while license suspended/revoked, misdemeanor marijuana possession, drug-related object, knowingly driving vehicle with suspended, cancelled or revoked registration, failure to yield and open container violation.

A loaded 9mm Taurus handgun and a bag containing whole and crushed ecstasy pills, multiple separate bags of packaged marijuana and several cell phones were found in McClain’s vehicle.

The 22-year-old Thomasville resident is charged with failure to stop at accident with injury/damage, possession of a firearm during commission a crime or attempt to commit a felony, possession with intent to distribute synthetic cannabinoid and distribution of a Schedule I or II controlled substance.
