CAIRO — Grady County has moved another step closer to building a volunteer fire department building in north Grady County.
The Grady County Commission approved a bid from Select Medal Builders, Inc., at its most recent meeting on June 15. Select Medal Builders is based in Doerun, Ga.
The bid was for $55,730, the lowest of three bids received.
Dean Steel Buildings’ bid was $61,625. GFA’s bid was $82,399.
The 40x40x16 metal building will be built on Harrell Road, off Ga. Highway 112 North.
Money for the project is part of Grady County’s 2021 budget.
It will be built on land that was donated to the county, according to Grady County Administrator Buddy Johnson.
It will take six months to a year to finish the project.
The addition will help with insurance rates for residents in that area, Johnson said.
The plan is for one more in another remote area of the county.
