THOMASVILLE — A woman eating lobster while driving told a police officer she had just gotten off work, picked up the food and was starving.

The officer saw the red Toyota Camry Shekila Janay Smith was driving make a wide turn into the other lane when she turned off Gordon Avenue onto Mimosa Drive.

While following the car, the officer smelled a strong marijuana odor coming from the vehicle, a Thomasville Police Department incident report states.

The car traveled along Rosedale Avenue and South, Magnolia and Fern streets and eventually stopped at a Wright Street business.

The incident report states that as the officer approached the Camry, he smelled air freshener and lobster.

The officer told Smith that eating while driving while driving could be considered distracted driving if she could not operate her vehicle safely.

The report states Smith confirmed to the officer the odor he smelled was marijuana and that she had smoked the drug before picking up her food.

Smith told the officer he would find marijuana in the car.

Behind the bag of lobster, the officer found a yellow purse that contained several sandwich bags of marijuana, a digital scale and $280 in cash.

Smith was transported to the Thomas County Jail, where a Thomas County/Thomasville Narcotics Vice Division agent weighed the felony amount of marijuana and seized the cash.

Smith, 28, Thomasville, is charged with marijuana possession with intent to distribute and failure to maintain lane.
