THOMASVILLE — A 14-year-old male is charged with homicide in the death of a man whose body was found Saturday in Barwick woods.
Thomas County Sheriff’s Office deputies found Evan Williamson deceased in a wooded area within Barwick city limits about 1 p.m.
A Thomas County Superior Court judge denied the suspect bond Monday morning. The suspect, who resides in the Barwick area, was arrested by deputies in Barwick several hours after the body was discovered.
“We believe he is responsible for the death of (Mr.) Williamson,” said Capt. Tim Watkins, sheriff’s office chief investigator.
The teen and 20-year-old Williamson knew each other.
Tim Coram, deputy Thomas County coroner, said it appears Williamson was shot around 10 or 11 p.m. Friday night.
“We don’t have an exact time,” Coram said.
The victims’ body was found behind a store at the intersection of Ga. 33 and Coffee Road, Coram said.
“It appears he was shot one time,” the deputy coroner said.
Coram declined to reveal the location of the gunshot wound.
The deceased will be transported to the Atlanta crime lab for an autopsy.
Further information will be available when preliminary autopsy results are received, Watkins said.
The Thomasville regional Georgia Bureau of Investigation office is assisting in the case.
