THOMASVILLE- Spend the day in Downtown Thomasville on Saturday, February 1st and enjoy the Annual Black History Celebration.
Shining a light on Thomasville’s annual Black History Month Parade and Celebration, Special Events Coordinator Cassidee Brookes describes this year’s event as “a way to bring the community together and honor the cultural heritage that is such an integral part of our nation’s story.'”
The event will kick off with a parade throughout Historic Downtown Thomasville beginning at 10 a.m., followed by a range of activities at the The Ritz Amphitheater, including local community speakers, an interactive African Dance, a drumming performance, food trucks, and much more. The celebration is meant to “capture the essence of diversity and inclusivity,” added Brooks.
During the month of February, The Jack Hadley Black History Museum will feature a gallery wall along Stephens Street, showcasing historical black figures local to Thomasville to commemorate Black History Month. In addition, residents can find an art stroll throughout Downtown Thomasville, displaying beautifully painted banners and circle signs along the brick lined streets and at the The Ritz Amphitheater.
Building on such a strong turnout from last year, Main Street Director Brandy Avery reports over 100 entries for this years parade and strongly encourages the community to come out and celebrate. The event is free of charge and open to the community.
