CAIRO — Cairo Police officers are investigating a reported rape incident of a Cairo High School student.
A police incident report states that the victim, a female juvenile, left school at about 8 a.m. Tuesday in a vehicle with two males with whom she was familiar. The victim told police that the vehicle made several turns before stopping at Azalea Park.
The victim told police that one of the males then got out of the vehicle to take a phone call while the driver got into the back seat with her and asked her for sex. When she refused, the victim said the male then forcibly raped her.
The victim said she and the two males then returned to school.
Police say the primary suspect is known to investigators.
Grady County School Police requested the assistance of the Cairo Police Department in investigating the incident, which was initially believed to have occurred in the CHS parking lot. Upon investigating the report, it was determined that the incident did not occur on campus and CPD took over the investigation.
Investigators spoke with the victim, whose parents declined to have a male officer speak with her, the same day.
A statement from interim police chief Giovannie Santos said CPD’s Criminal Investigations Division is continuing to look into the allegations and is conducting interviews.
