Linda Marie Giddens
Services for Linda Marie Giddens, 39, of Pavo, are at 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 9, 2002 at Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. James Herbert officiating. Interment is in Reedy Creek Cemetery in Pavo. Pallbearers are Lorenzo Giddens, Chad Lamons, Fulton King Jr., Leroy Lamons Jr., Leroy Lamons III, James Herring, Paul Baker, Anthony Booker, Walter Booker, Jimmy Lamons and Derrick Herring. She died Saturday, Feb. 2, in Thomas County. Born June 1, 1962, in Pavo, Ms. Giddens was the daughter of Sampson Giddens Sr. and the late Mittie Rene Giddens. She was a member of Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church. Survivors include her father, Sampson Giddens Sr.; two sons, Travis Giddens of Barwick and Kendrick Giddens of Pavo; a daughter, Sheila Giddens of Moultrie; five brothers, Isiash Giddens, John Franklin Giddens (Sharon), Melvin Giddens all of Massachusetts, Jack Giddens (Georgia) of Moultrie, and Sampson Giddens Jr. of Pavo; and six sisters, Nadine Booker (Paul), Elizabeth Hill, Alberta Giddens, Earlene Giddens, all of Pavo, Sylvia Lamons of Moultrie, Mildred Booker (Mike Booker) of Massachusetts. The body will remain at the funeral home until it is placed in the church one hour before the funeral. — Strong Funeral Home
Connie Marie Tucker Humphries
Services for Connie Marie Tucker Humphries, 57, Pelham, are at 3 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 9, 2002 at Braswell Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. David Pickering and the Rev. Steve Wooten will officiate and interment is in Pelham Cemetery. Active pallbearers are Phil Ferrell, Jerry Jenkins, Robert Horton, Glenn Ponder, Greg Ponder and Stephen Howell. Mrs. Humphries died Feb. 6 at Phoebe Putney Hospital. Born Dec. 2, 1944 in Grady County, Ga., she was a daughter of the late Marie James Tucker and the late Oliver Tucker. She was married to Donahue Humphries of Pelham on Oct. 20, 1962. She was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church and a para-professional at Shiver Elementary School in Grady County. Survivors include her husband, Donahue Humphries of Pelham; three sons and daughters-in-law, Jimmy and Renee Humphries with two children, Shannon and Michelle Humphries with two children and Randy and Niki Humphries with three children all of Pelham; and a daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Eddie Spence with two children of Pelham. Thomas Love
Services for Thomas Love, 62, Thomasville, are at 11 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 9, 2002 at Hatcher-Peoples Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Jimmy Bryson will officiate. Mr. Love died Feb. 4 in Thomasville. Born in Savannah, he was a son of the late Roger L. Love Sr. He was married to Mary Etta Quarterman Love in Savannah. He was retired and had lived here for five years after moving from Milledgeville. Survivors include his wife, Mary Etta Love of Queens, N.Y.; daughter, Thomaselina Love Balickons of Savannah; son, Thomas L. Love of Thomasville; daughters, Williemae Love, Lydia Love both of New York, Monica Love of Kentucky; daughter-in-law, Angela Love of Thomasville; grandson, Thomas L. Love Jr. of Thomasville; son-in-law, Bruce Balckons of Savannah; grandson, Charles Trae Coger of New York; and a host of other grandsons and daughters. — Hatcher-Peoples Funeral Home
Jacqueline “Jackie” Flakes McLeRoy
Services for Jacqueline “Jackie” Flakes McLeRoy, 51, Blythe, are at 3 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 9, 2002 at Botsford Baptist Church in Waynesboro. The Rev. Wayne Dixon will officiate and interment is in Hopeful Baptist Church Cemetery in Hephzibah. Active pallbearers are Jimmy Flakes Jr., Travis Flakes, Stephen Stuckey, Rigoberto Diaz Jr., Alvin Williams and Adam Flakes. Honorary pallbearers are Kevin Flakes, Damon Flakes, Chris Long Jr., Chris Flakes, T.J. Flakes and Jessie Stuckey. Mrs. McLeRoy died Wednesday, Feb. 6 at her residence. She was a native and lifelong resident of Burke County. She and her husband operated McLeRoy’s Service Station in Waynesboro for many years. She was a member of Botsford Baptist Church. Survivors
include her husband, Charles McLeRoy of Blythe; parents, Jim and Mary Flakes of Waynesboro; daughter, Tera McLeRoy Collins of Blythe; son-in-law, Michael Chad Collins Sr. of Blythe; two grandchildren, Michael Chad Collins Jr. of Blythe, Haley Jordan Collins of Blythe; two sisters, Brenda Holden of Grovetown, Donna Stuckey of Statesboro; five brothers, James Flakes, Jimmy Flakes, Danny Flakes, Ricky Flakes and Tim Flakes all of Waynesboro. She was preceded in death by a son, Charles Leon “Spunky” McLeRoy Jr. in 1990. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Hospice, 2260 Wrightsboro Rd., Augusta, Ga. 30904. Lola Mae Morrow
Services for Lola Mae Morrow, 96, Thomasville, are at 1 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 9, 2002 at Mt. Sinai Apostolic Faith Church, 1217 Short Broad St., Thomasville. Elder Kevin M. Harrison, pastor officiating, and interment is in Magnolia Cemetery. Active pallbearers are friends of the family. Mrs. Morrow died Feb. 1 at Parkway Regional Medical Center in North Miami Beach, Fla. Born May 25, 1905 in Tifton, she was a daughter of the late John Lowe and Emma Franklin Lowe. She was married to Gillie Morrow who also preceded her in death. She attended Tifton public schools, member of Mt. Sinai Apostolic Faith Church and was a nursing assistant. Survivors include her daughter, Arletha Meeks of Thomasville; grandchildren, Allen and Mildred Meeks of Miami, Fla.; grandson, Larry Meeks of Chattahoochee, Fla.; granddaughter, Lola Mae Crumby of Thomasville; grandsons, Frank Weaver of Motran, Robert Lee Meeks of Detroit, Mich.; granddaughters, Sara Meeks of Clemons, N.Y., Shirley Meeks of California; many great-grandchildren; and a host of friends at Scott Senior Center. — Hadley’s Funeral Home
Mildred Williams Newton
Services for Mildred Williams Newton, 94, Thomasville, are at 1:30 p.m., Feb. 9, 2002 at Bethany Congregational United Congregational Church, 1122 Lester St., Thomasville. The Rev. Elaine Sipe will officiate and the Rev. Curnell Henry will deliver the eulogy. Interment is in Magnolia Cemetery in Thomasville. Active pallbearers are elders of Bethany Congregational. Honorary pallbearers are Allen Normal alumni. Mrs. Newton died Feb. 4 at Archbold Hospital. Born June 15, 1907 in Thomasville, she was a daughter of the late Richard Williams and Lillie Sims Williams. She attended Talladega College, Ala. where she earned a bachelor of arts degree, Teachers College of Columbia University where she earned a masters degree. A retired educator, she was a member of Retired Educators Association, National Council of Negro Women, Allen Normal Alumni Organization, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. and Bethany Congregational United Congregational Church. Survivors include nieces, Catherine Postell of Atlanta, Lillie Boddy of Chattanooga, Tenn.; nephews, Charles Boddy of Chattanooga, Julian (Angela) Boddy, Richard (Rhonda) Boddy all of Houston, Texas; a cousin, Ruby (John) Gloster of Thomasville; five great-nieces and one great-nephew.
