THOMASVILLE — The Thomasville Payroll Development Authority (PDA) has approved a concrete plant for Red Hills Business Park.

Adam Rowland, a Thomas County farmer, told the PDA that local and area people — smaller users — tell him they have to wait sometimes two weeks for concrete.

Red Hills is the perfect location for the plant, Rowland told PDA members.

“It’s got everything we need to get set up and get this plant going,” he said. 

He pointed out the park has all the utilities he will need.

The PDA will donate two business park lots for the plant. The land will go on tax rolls. No tax incentives will be given to the business.

Rowland said the plant will be an $875,000 investment and employ about 10.

He expects to begin construction in four to five months. 

“It’s going to be moving really fast,” Rowland said.

Mark NeSmith, PDA co-chairman and a Thomas County commissioner, said the plant is an opportunity for a good new business.

“He’s so prepared and ready to go,” NeSmith said.

NeSmith’s motion to approve the project is contingent upon PDA approval of Rowland’s site plan.

PDA member Stephen Cheney abstained in the vote for approval.
