Search on for suspected shooter in Wednesday incident

CAIRO — A Grady County man is recovering from a gunshot wound to the chest, and the suspect in the shooting is being sought, according to law enforcement authorities.

The shooting occurred in the 700 block of Joyner Road about 7 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 23, according to the Thomasville regional office Georgia Bureau of Investigation office, which is assisting the Grady County Sheriff’s Office.

The male victim, identified as William Jonas Johns, suffered a single gunshot wound to the chest. He was transported to a local hospital where he was treated for injuries.

An investigation by GBI agents and Grady County investigators identified Ashton Taylor Martin, 18, as being present at the scene. An argument between the two men ensued, resulting in Johns being shot. The incident took place on a vacant lot in the area, according to the GBI.

Martin, who is at large, is charged with aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and is wanted on the outstanding charges. He is known to frequent the Thomas and Grady County area.
