In honor of our first responders

We have seen them called out to perform their duty, at all hours of the day and night, in all kinds of conditions, all for the safety and security of our community.
Throughout the nation, October 28 has been set aside as National First Responders Day, and for a group of men and women who dedicate their lives for the lives of others, they are worthy of our gratitude and appreciation every day.
Our first responders came in all forms and come in all backgrounds, too. They are firefighters, paramedics, police officers and emergency medical technicians. The hours are long and the work often difficult.
Theirs are among the most dangerous professions. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention figures show that 97 firefighters and 155 police officers die on the job each year. Many others are injured while carrying out their duties.
They are there for the community but they also are a part of the community. Keep that in mind when you see them out today and every day and thank them for the work they do for all of us.
