THOMASVILLE — A man who bonded out of jail on a charge of assaulting his girlfriend stabbed the woman as soon as he was free, according to a city police officer.

At midnight Friday, police responded to Thomasville Inn on U.S. 19 South to a call about a woman being stabbed.

The 26-year-old victim, who lives at the motel, had lacerations on her head and neck and was transported to Archbold Memorial Hospital for treatment.

The alleged assailant, Roger Jackson, had fled the scene, said Lt. Toby Knifer, Thomasville Police Department Criminal Investigations Division commander.

Jackson, 44, 701 Hobby Road, Ashburn, was charged earlier with simple battery involving the woman and bonded out of the Thomas County Jail.

“We had several locations where he was supposed to be hiding,” Knifer said.

Jackson was found in Moultrie and charged with aggravated assault and aggravated stalking. The latter charge resulted when the suspect violated bond conditions by contacting the woman, the commander said.
