THOMASVILLE — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has charged five people with hindering apprehension and with gang activity in the 2019 fatal shooting of a 21-year-old Bainbridge man.

One suspect remains at large.

“They were identified as being associates in that case,” said Jamy Steinberg, special agent in charge of the Thomasville regional GBI office.

Suspects are charged with hindering apprehension of a criminal and two counts of criminal street gang activity.

Charged are:

• Christian Dashaun Sharpe, 20, 111 Meadow St., Thomasville

• Xavier Bryant, 20, 120 Florida Ave.

• Cornelius Jamel Barnhill, 20, 1505 Lankford Drive, Valdosta

• Tyrese Markelle Smith, 20, 1015 Young St.

• Tahrik Raheem Anderson, 17, 111 Feinberg St.

Ferrell Cooper, also known as Ra-Ra, 23, 510 Old Albany Road, has outstanding warrants on the same charges, Steinberg said.

The homicide victim, Tanzania Rashawn Cooper, was found dead on Feinberg Street in a vehicle he had been driving.

Derylmyaize Jackson was charged with the homicide in the case. He is being held in the Thomas County Jail.

Lt. Toby Knifer, commander of the Thomasville Police Department Criminal Investigations Division, said the ongoing homicide investigation revealed what Jackson and his associates were doing before and after the deadly shooting.

Knifer said suspects participated in hindering the arrest of Jackson and in criminal street gang activity.

“They were obstructing the investigation after the fact,” the commander said.
