God is watching us

The Bible says, “For the ways of man are before the eyes of the Lord, and He ponders all his paths” (Psalm 5:21). Bette Midler recorded, among other songs, a beautiful song called “From A Distance.” We all need to realize that we have a Creator Who is interested in us and sees and knows everything about us. God watches all of us constantly. He sees everything. We cannot hide from Him or keep any secret from Him. He even reads our minds. He is omniscient, which means He knows everything there is to know in His universe.

It is tragic that most people do not believe this. It’s even more tragic that some do not even believe that God exists. These by God’s own definition are fools. In Psalm 14:1, God declares, “The fool has said in his heart, ‘There is no God.’” This is not to claim that those who believe in God and have trusted Christ are good. No. God also tells us, “They have all turned aside, they have together become corrupt; there is none who does good, no, not one” (Ps. 14:3).

Why is no one good? Each one has inherited from Adam an old, evil nature. Christians are forgiven every sin, but we must still contend with our old, corrupt nature until we leave this earth. Then God will make us like our Savior and we will no longer have to deal with what Paul called the “Old man.”

God is loving but also just. His just nature demands that every sin be paid for. Fortunate for all believers in Jesus, Christ has already paid for every one of our sins, those committed yesterday, today, and tomorrow. What good news! What wonderful news! Because of this, we Christians all have hope of heaven, which we are assured by God exists. God said, “For surely there is a hereafter, and your hope will not be cast off” (Proverbs 23:18). Praise God for loving sinful, rebellious man enough to die a horrible and tortured death on the cross to pay for my sins and all who believe in Jesus, God’s Son.

But it pains my heart to realize how many are so foolish as not to believe in Christ. For all unbelievers must spend all eternity paying for their own sins in hell. And keep in mind eternity never begins to shorten. It is forever and forever. What a tremendous tragedy! And an equal tragedy is that they have squandered so many opportunities to be saved. They have heard preachers proclaim the Word and tell them how to be saved, and they have had mothers and fathers plead with them to believe and be saved.

But Satan has them tight in his grip, having deceived them into believing that Christianity, the Gospel, and all things of God are all myths. What a great and sad tragedy!

Yes, God is certainly watching us, all of us, from a distance. Praise Him!
