THOMASVILLE — Several people traveling in a vehicle witnessed someone removing a large Trump campaign sign and reported it to the Thomas County Sheriff’s Office while the theft was in progress.

The culprit got away, but not before the activity was captured on surveillance video equipment.

Nancy McCollum, Thomas County Republican Party committee member, said the large sign — four by eight feet — was removed late Friday afternoon.

The theft was reported at 5:13 p.m., she added.

McCollum said local Republicans had permission to place the sign on Senior Life Insurance Company property at West Jackson Street and the West Bypass.

Getting the sign to the location required a relay of volunteers, McCollum said. It was brought to Thomasville from Warner Robins.

Witnesses saw a man remove the sign and put it in the back of the older-model, rusty truck he was driving, McCollum said.

Capt. Tim Watkins, sheriff’s office chief investigator, said investigators will look at Senior Life surveillance video in an attempt to identify the person who took the sign.

“It’s criminal trespass. You can get up to a year in jail and up to a $1,000 fine or any combination of the two,” Watkins said.
