CAIRO — Officers with the Cairo Police Department were dispatched to a Walmart parking lot Tuesday evening in reference to a stabbing incident involving two juveniles.
The stabbing victim told police he had been involved in an argument with the suspect — a black male he was familiar with — at the Cairo Crossing Shopping Center near Highway 84. The altercation became physical when the suspect attempted to break the victim’s truck window, and the boy was stabbed.
Police say the victim had stab wounds on the back of his head and on the side of his back. Witnesses on the scene were seen applying pressure to the victim’s wounds when authorities arrived.
An eyewitness told police they saw a black male pull a green knife out of the victim’s back and then stab the boy again. The eyewitness also told police they were familiar with the suspect, who was last seen headed toward the nearby Maryland Fried Chicken.
Officers eventually located the juvenile suspect at a nearby gas station and found a folding pocket knife in his possession.
The juvenile was transported to the Cairo Police Department where he was charged with aggravated assault and possession of a knife during the commission of a crime.
Custody of the juvenile was then turned over to the Department of Juvenile Justice in Thomasville.
The incident occurred at around 8:39 p.m.
