CAIRO — Officials with the City of Cairo say they’re expecting this Friday’s benefit concert to raise more than $3,000 to be used to host future downtown music events.
Headlined by outlaw country music singer Ward Davis and also featuring the Tallahassee-based Tobacco Rd Band, city officials planned the event with the goal of raising enough money to hold free outdoor concerts later this year. Cairo hosted four free concerts on Broad Street in 2019, and Main Street director Alyssa Blakley said the city is looking to host four more in this year in April, June, August and October.
More than 200 tickets and nearly two dozen tables have already been sold for the event, and Blakley said she’s expecting somewhere around 350 total attendees at the Grady Cultural Center.
Each ticket holder will be given a raffle ticket for the chance to win prizes including a JBL Bluetooth speaker, an ice chest and special band merchandise.
Also being auctioned Friday is an acoustic guitar signed by several musicians from a recent charity concert in Nashville. Proceeds from the guitar raffle will be directed toward victims of recent tornadoes in Nashville — the home of both Davis and country music as whole.
“We were so fortunate to have other cities help us through our storms, so this is our way of giving back,” Blakley said.
Advance tickets for the concert cost $20 and can be purchased at warddavismusic.com.
Tickets can also be purchased for $25 at the gate.
Storm’s Shrimp Shack will be on site to sell food and drinks throughout the event.
Doors will open at 6 p.m. and the show will begin at 7:30 p.m.
