THOMASVILLE — While the coronavirus crisis has brought much of the community to a screeching halt, construction of a Courtyard by Marriott is on target.

The hotel — at South Dawson Street and Remington Avenue — is expected to open in late fall or early winter, said Jeremy Emmett, chief operations officer of the group of local business people who own the Marriott and the Thomasville Hampton Inn.

“Construction is still moving forward,” Emmett said. “We’re still on schedule right now.”

Framing of the four-story hotel should be complete within a few days.

“We’re looking forward to being there to provide jobs and are looking forward to when this crisis is past,” Emmett said, adding that the hotel will provide much-needed jobs and downtown businesses with a new customer base.

The only delay in the hotel project has been furniture, equipment and fixtures. Emmett said manufacturers of the products have “ramped up” to 100 percent capacity.

“Delays are minimal,” he said.

The $14 million to $16 million project is under construction on a tract of about four acres.

The hotel will have 107 rooms, a bar and a bistro that will offer a limited menu.

Emmett expressed a positive outlook for the local economy.

“Indicators before the crisis were strong. We expect it to come back strong,” said Emmett, who has a lot of faith in Thomasville businesses he said will remain strong.

Thomasville is supportive of large and small businesses, which will result in a comeback stronger than ever after the crisis, he said.
