The Thomasville Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) celebrated its 107th birthday with dinner at the Plaza Restaurant on July 19. The Thomasville Chapter NSDAR was organized on July 19, 1912 with 20 members. Blanche Tarwater Merrill was the Organizing Regent.
Thomasville Chapter DAR Regent Shelba Sellers greeted everyone in attendance. Thomasville Chapter DAR member, Nancy Pyle, was one of approximately 25 DAR members and prospective members who pinned their patriot on the map of colonial America at the celebration. Nancy Pyle’s ancestor was Benjamin Powel who served in Philadelphia and in the Chester/Norristown area during the Revolutionary War. Those attending were asked to put a pin on the area where their patriot lived or served during the war.
