VALDOSTA — The Valdosta High School tennis concessions building project was bid to a Moultrie construction company over three Valdosta construction companies.

The Valdosta Board of Education approved the bid of Barber Contracting Company to construct the new facility for the tennis team and matches at a Tuesday work session meeting.

Barber was chosen over other bids because it was the lowest bid.

“The low bid was about $30,000 less than the second lowest,” said Kaci Nobles, facilities and maintenance director.

The total bid amount was $496,000, compared to Kellerman Construction, Inc. at $526,058, Quillian Powell Construction Company at $543,000 and SC Barker Construction Company at $547,500.

Valdosta School Superintendent Dr. Todd Cason assured the board Barber is a good choice and he has seen the contractor’s work at a Colquitt County school where he was the principal.

“They are a reputable company,” Cason said. “I’ve had an opportunity to work with them in Colquitt County.”

The tennis concessions will include a space for food and drink purchases, restrooms and storage.

The next BOE meeting will be held at the central office, 1204 Williams St., at 7 p.m., Aug. 13.
