VALDOSTA – The Salvation Army will soon attempt to “Stuff the Bus.”
The organization hosts the back-to-school drive from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, at the Salvation Army’s office, 320 Smithland Place. The event also recognizes the agency’s 95th anniversary.
There will be a school-supply giveaway along with a water slide, refreshments and games. All activities are free, organizers confirmed.
“It’s always good because of the kids that we service are those that are truly less fortunate,” Lt. Chris Thomas said.
A Walmart registry is in place online until Aug. 3 for donors to purchase school supplies for students.
Patrons can buy the items and members of the Salvation Army will pick them up from the store. Participating Walmarts are located on Norman Drive and Inner Perimeter Road.
Thomas said donations will be accepted past deadline at the agency’s office.
While supplies can be delivered to the office, Thomas said staff prefers to pick up the items.
“Hot items” last year were scientific calculators, page protectors, plastic folders with prongs and large backpacks.
Recipients are asked to pre-register by calling the Salvation Army’s office 8:30 a.m.-noon, Aug. 5-7, as supplies will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
The registry is located online at walmart.com/lists/view-events-registry-items?id=67299978-4fa2-49f7-b9ff-5c315d328c6c.
