The world of worldly wisdom

“Let no one deceive himself. If anyone among you seems to be wise in this age, let him become a fool that he may become wise. For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, ‘He catches the wise in their own craftiness’; and again, ‘The Lord knows the thoughts of the wise, that they are futile’” (1 Cor. 3:18-20).
Believe it or not there are seminary professors who think they are wise enough to know more than God’s Word. The same can be said of atheists and many intellectuals. What fools! The passage above reminds us that worldly wisdom is foolishness with God and quite silly compared with God’s wisdom found in His Book, the Holy Bible.
I will admit that a lot of “wisdom” we learn from experience is very good. Learning how to handle money is a good example. If one never learns this, he is likely to end up like so many of our people, who are retired and only have Social Security to live on. What a crying shame that people can work 30 or 40 years and never prepare for their older years. Many also work at jobs they hate because the pay is good. Yet many don’t have the foresight to save or invest a little for their later years.
Work is a gift from God and should be what He has suited us for. It should be work that is compatible with our natural abilities. My wife and I were very fortunate to have been teachers, because we both very much enjoyed the many years we taught school. Teaching is not easy work. It was not easy for us, but we enjoyed it because it fit who we were. I believe we were born to teach. I believe teachers are born and not made. I never had an education course that I thought worth my time.
The sad thing is that today Satan is in charge of public education and has managed to make it illegal to teach children about Jesus Christ, the only way to heaven. I loved it when my students asked me what I believed about life and the hereafter. That was my open door to share my faith and witness to them. And I took full advantage of it. It is the responsibility of every Christian to get God’s Word out, to share with others how they too might be saved and avoid hell. This naturally displeases Satan, so he has managed to get his crooked politicians to pass laws against it in schools. These politicians are “of their father, the devil,” as Jesus told the Pharisees.
However, judgment day is surely coming. And I suspect it may not be too far in the future. In the meantime, atheists will continue to scoff and disbelieve. They will continue to think they know more than the God they deny. They will continue to live in sin as the people did in the days of Noah. May God help them.
