Sign up for recreation basketball

Registration is being held for the Recreation Basketball Program at the Grady County Rec Department. The program is for youth ages 5-14 and the cost is $20. You may register weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Recreation Department located on the Pelham Highway. For more information, call 377-8221.

County, city offices closed

Normal business hours for Grady County and City of Cairo offices will resume on Dec. 26. Garbage collection for those residents living in the city should take note that the regular weekly schedule will be the same for both Christmas and New Year’s weeks.

Mt. Tabor Union to meet

The Mt. Tabor Union will convene at the Bethel M.B. Church of the 16th Community on Dec. 28 and 29 at 10 a.m. The Rev. Louzy Harrison is the chairman of the union and invites all members to attend.

Family, friends day

On Sunday, Dec. 29 at 11 a.m., Faith Temple will be having Friends and Family Day the last Sunday of the year. At 10:30 p.m., Dec. 31, church members will hold their annual Watch Night Service. Don’t miss either of these life-changing services for a new and exciting year.

Library offers food for fines

During the month of December, you may bring in one non-perishable food item for each dollar amount owed in overdue fines. Lost or damaged items or collection fees cannot be paid with food donations. The library cannot accept anything that is damaged or past the expiration date indicated on the package or can. Pet and baby food also accepted. This only applies to fines accumulated at the Roddenbery Library. All items will be donated to the Grady County Help Agency.

Mug benefits foster children

The Church of Grady County is spearheading an effort to raise money to purchase Christmas gifts for foster children in the community by selling a Christmas in the South commemorative mug during the holiday season. All proceeds from the sale of the collectible mugs, which will featuring a different scene from the community each year, will go directly to buying Christmas gifts for children in foster care. The mugs are $15 each and are available from members of the church, at United National Bank and Wheelers Christmas Tree Farm.

Learn to paint with watercolors

Are you interested in learning how to paint with watercolors? On Thursdays at 10 a.m., Dr. Tom Hart will be providing instructions and techniques for beginning watercolors in the Maker Space at the library. This is a free class and no registration is required. Call the Roddenbery Memorial Library for more information.

Local Al-Anon meets Thursdays

Does someone close to you have a drinking or drug problem? Al-Anon Family Groups have one focus: to help friends and families of alcoholics. The local group meets in Cairo on Thursdays at 9 a.m. at the AA clubhouse, 3351 Hwy. 84, Cairo, Ga 38828. For more information call Linda at (229) 221-5469.

Cake pans available for checkout

Thanks to a generous donation by Cairo’s local VFW No. 8933 Jr. Vice Commander, Nova Maul, the Roddenbery Memorial Library is able to offer cake pans for check out. Patrons can check out up to two pans for seven days with no renewals and must return the pans washed and in their hanging bags to avoid a cleaning fee.
