Chamber holding gun raffle
The Cairo-Grady County Chamber of Commerce has started one of its largest fundraising events of the year, the 20 Guns in 20 Days Raffle. For $20 per ticket, participants will have the opportunity to win one of 20 different guns that will be given away over a 20-day period. Only 1,000 tickets will be sold and are available for purchase at South Georgia Outdoors, United National Bank and the Chamber of Commercial. For official rules, visit www.cairochamber.com.
Elevate Artisan Market is Saturday
The 4th annual Elevate Artisan Market will be held this Saturday, Oct. 26 at Summerhill Farms, located at 644 Hall Rd. in Cairo. Elevate is one of the largest gatherings of artisans and craftspeople in the Southeast and will feature more than 180 artists from throughout the Southeastern United States. In addition to the artisans, those attending may enjoy delicious food, old-fashioned games and a chance to win a variety of door prizes and interact with the alpaca and llamas from Maisie Daze Fleecery. Library to hold movie night
Join the library on Tuesday, Oct. 29 from 5-7 p.m. for a book talk on “Persuasion” by Jane Austen and afterwards we will watch the movie in the auditorium. Light refreshments will be provided at the Roddenbery Memorial Library.
Community Day is Sunday
Fresh Start Global Ministries, located at 7324 Ga. Hwy. 111 South in Calvary will be having a Community Day this Saturday, Oct. 26 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Come enjoy free food, a free clothing giveaway, free health screenings, food, clothing and jewelry vendors, food contests, bouncy houses, carnival food, games and more.
Shiver Fall Festival is Saturday
The annual Shiver Fall Festival will be held this Saturday, Oct. 26 from 4 to 8 p.m. The community is invited to come enjoy plenty of games, a hayride, haunted house, cake walk, bingo, silent auction, live entertainment and the famous fish fry. For more information, call 377-2235.
Early voting begins for local elections
Voters in both Grady County and the City of Cairo may participate in early voting for the special purpose local option sales tax (SPLOST) and the local city and county elections now through Friday, Nov. 1. In addition to elections for City of Cairo council members, residents of the city will be asked to vote on Sunday alcoholic beverage sales by the package and/or drink. All advance voting will take place at the Board of Registrars Office located at 24 Third Avenue, NE behind the Grady County Courthouse.
Zebulon Theatre to hold fundraiser
The Zebulon Theatre officials are holding their Jewels and Jeans Fundraising Event on Oct. 26. Doors will open with cocktails and fellowship at 6 p.m. and the silent auction will be held from 7 to 7:30. There will be a live auction beginning at 7:30 with more than 30 items available including a three-quarter carat diamond ring and a $250 gift card from South Georgia Outdoors. Pre-sold raffle tickets are $25 each and can be purchased at the Zebulon and at Bishop’s Jewelry in Cairo.
Tabernacle Baptist fall festival Saturday
The annual Fall Festival at Tabernacle Baptist Church will be held on Saturday, October 26 from 5 to 9 p.m. at the church located at 3224 Hwy. 84 East in Cairo. Everyone is invited to come enjoy a hay ride, games, blow up slide, candy and plenty of fun.
CHS baseball team to host golf tournament
The Cairo High School Baseball Team will be hosing its first three-man scramble golf tournament on Saturday, Oct. 26 at Tired Creek Golf Course. There will be a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. and the registration fee is $79 per player or $210 per team. Registration includes the entry fee, lunch and a ticket for door prizes. All proceeds from the tournament will help purchase new pitching machines, tarps for the infield and the expenses necessary to attend the 2020 Dugout Club Pre-Season Tournament. Library starts a CAM club
Feeling creative? Want to learn more about Japan and its culture? Join the new CAM club at the Roddenbery Memorial Library. Make, discuss, and learn about Comics, Anime and Manga. Expand your knowledge and go beyond. It is held on Tuesdays from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.
Al-Anon chapter meets on Thursday mornings
