THOMASVILLE — The annual Hands On Thomas County Day, set for Saturday, has been postponed until a later date.

The forecast for gusty winds and heavy rain prompted the HOTC to call off the event, which sends hundreds of volunteers to dozens of sites around the community for service projects.

“We’re very sad we won’t be able to do this on Saturday,” said Mark Lowe, the HOTC board of directors chairman. “We look forward to this all year. But at the end of the day, it’s really about meeting our goal, and that is serving others.”

Lowe said the projects scheduled for today will be rescheduled for other times throughout the year.

“As long as we do that, we’ll still meet our mission,” he said.

HOTC’s group volunteer leaders will work on an individual basis with agencies in line for projects to determine the best time to carry out those efforts.

Group volunteer leaders will pick up and distribute T-shirts for HOTC volunteers.

The event was planned to put approximately 1,400 volunteers at more than 60 sites across the community for service projects.

“Volunteer safety is our number one concern,” said Ali Harvey, program and events director.

HOTC staff and volunteers were busy Friday at the Thomasville Visitors Center and at other service projects that had been scheduled.

Hands On Thomas County’s Family Volunteer Day will take place as scheduled for November 9.
