A Woodstock, Georgia, construction and design firm with strong ties to an important downtown Thomasville project has been awarded the Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation’s prestigious Award for Excellence in Rehabilitation for 2019.

IDC Construction, LLC, was presented the award April 12 in Thomasville during the Georgia Trust’s annual Spring Ramble, recognizing the group’s work on the restoration and rehabilitation project for downtown Atlanta’s historic Clermont Hotel. The award was presented to Gary Williams, Principal of IDC, whose family has deep roots in Thomasville, and Stephen Chapman, IDC’s vice president for operations.

IDC’s Chapman, who had an integral role in the Clermont Hotel project, is also quarterbacking the design and construction project for the new hotel being developed for downtown Thomasville, located at the intersection of Dawson Street and Remington Avenue.

In 2018, and subject to numerous community meetings, the Thomasville Payroll Development Authority awarded Southern Lodging the contract to build a downtown hotel under a Marriott Courtyard franchise. Southern Lodging has engaged IDC Construction and PFVS Architecture to provide architectural planning and design the Courtyard by Marriott hotel, which Southern Lodging will operate in downtown Thomasville.

No stranger to this community, IDC Construction was employed by Camp Hospitality, LLC, in 2017 to perform a property improvement program for the Hampton Inn of Thomasville. Camp Hospitality representative Jeremy Emmett reported that renovation project was “a great success, with all work coming in on time and within budget with minimal impact on the community’s lodging needs.”

“IDC Construction and PFVS Architecture have worked on dozens of Marriott, Hilton and other projects as a team, and Southern Lodging and the Thomasville community are very fortunate to have these partners involved in such an important local project,” said Rodney Hunter, principal for Southern Lodging.

“The success of any project of this scale requires a strong team effort from the developer, design consultants, contractor and subcontractors,” said Chapman, “and, to date, we have received tremendous cooperation and beneficial input from city planning officials, a citizen advocacy and design advisory group facilitated by Tom Faircloth, the citizens of Thomasville and our development partner.”

“IDC feels both privileged and excited to be a part of this project in historic Thomasville, and we look forward to working with many local subcontractors and vendors in order to provide a significant positive impact on the Thomasville economy,” Chapman added.
