THOMASVILLE — Two Thomasville City Council candidates told city council members Wednesday they had been contacted about their campaign signs not being in compliance with the city ordinance pertaining to campaign signs.

Candidates Nate Tyler and Wanda Warren, who addressed the council members after a workshop, will meet with city officials to discuss the signs.

Information provided by the city states that campaign signs classified as standard informational signs must not be larger than 4.5 square feet, with a sign face that contains no reflective elements or projections and must not be taller than 2.5 feet and mounted on a wooden stake or metal frame no more than 1.5 inches in diameter.

“Campaign signs must be located on private property,” said Lynn Williams, city executive director of economic development and communications.

The sign area on single-family residential private property must not exceed 12 square feet, and a sign’s height can be no taller than four feet.

Williams said signs must be inserted directly into the ground using a wooden stake or metal frame.

“Banners, signs hung with strings or signs attached to walls are allowed,” Williams said.

Campaign signs cannot be illuminated, she added.
