Thomasville On Stage and Company has been keeping busy with their summer kids camp. Since the first of June, 36 campers age 8 to 18, plus an additional seven teen theater tech volunteers and a host of parent volunteers, have met daily for theater classes in an educational framework.

Local experts in theater arts, drama, voice, dance and set design and construction gave presentations to the students. Additional time was spent on acting skills, auditions, learning music and choreography all leading up to the end of camp production, Disney’s “Aladdin Jr.”

The show’s director is Kimsey Hodge, with assistant director Pat Orr, choreographer Brantley Ivey-Harrison and musical directors Julie and Shane Padgett. In addition, This year’s camp is truly a hometown collaboration, with set pieces on loan from the South Georgia Ballet and costumes borrowed from The Thomasville Music and Drama Troupe and Off Broadstreet Center for the Dance Arts and FIRM Dance Company, all of whom have recently produced their own renditions of this classic tale of love and friendship.

TOSAC’s “Aladdin Jr.” features Julianna Watson as the Genie, Kennedy Smart as Jasmine, Trammell Thompson as Aladdin, James Rodden as Jafar, Cameron Parker as the Sultan and Emilie Hart as Iago. In addition, a cast of palace guards, street rat sidekicks, harem friends, beggars, marketplace vendors, flying carpets, a monkey and even a jilted princely suitor make this musical a whole new world.
