Waldrep, Duncan toss gems as Bulldogs run streak to 12

THOMASVILLE — Hurston Waldrep and Gabe Duncan combined to throw 11 shutout innings and hold Early County to three hits Thursday as the Thomasville Bulldogs swept a doubleheader with identical 10-0 scores.
The wins pushed Thomasville’s winning streak to 12 and the Bulldogs improved to 16-4 overall. They are 9-0 in the Region 1-AA baseball standings.
In the opener, Waldrep walked one and struck out eight, allowing just a leadoff single in the fifth to Asher White.
A hit batter, Nathan Smith’s single and an error led to Thomasville’s first run in the first inning. Duncan brought in another run with an infield single, and a groundout make it 3-0. Dalton Dollar’s infield single made it 4-0.
Thomasville tacked on two more runs in the second, thanks to another infield single and a run-producing groundout, before Maylon Cochran’s two-run single in the third stretched the lead to 8-0,
Dollar blasted a two-run shot to left for the final runs. Dollar finished 2-for-2 with three RBIs, and Cochran also had three RBIs. Smith was 2-for-2, Harrison Stewart and Jimmy Cipriani each went 2-for-3 and Seth Kipper added a double.
Thomasville collected 12 hits in the nightcap, as Dollar was 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs, and Duncan was 2-for-3 with two triples and drove in three runs.
Cipriani and Jay Thomas each went 2-for-3 and Cochran was 2-for-4.
Duncan fanned eight and walked one in six innings.
Thomasville will go on the road to play Mount Dora (Florida) on Wednesday and Eustis (Florida) on Thursday.
