Bradshaw, Bulldogs finish sweep of Berrien

NASHVILLE — The Thomasville High School Bulldogs completed a Region 1-AA sweep of Berrien on Thursday, taking both ends of a doubleheader.
Thomasville improved to 10-4 overall and 3-0 in the region.
In the opener, the Bulldogs scored twice in the top of the seventh inning and held on for a 7-5 win. Maylon Cochran’s run-scoring single plate Nathan Smith with the go-ahead tally, and an error allowed an insurance run to score.
Gabe Duncan retired the Rebels in order in the bottom of the inning. Duncan struck out three over two scoreless innings.
Hurston Waldrep went the first five innings, allowing three earned runs on four hits and three walks while fanning six.
Thomasville trailed 1-0 after four innings before the Bulldogs exploded for a five-spot in the fifth. Witt Wetherington’s pinch-hit, bases-loaded double brought in three runs, and Duncan’s fielder’s choice made it 4-1. Harrison Stewart swiped home on a double steal to end the scoring.
Berrien answered with four runs in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game at 5-5.
Seth Kipper was 1-for-2 with a double for the Bulldogs, who finished with seven hits.
Jacob Bradshaw struck out five and walked two, allowing only an infield single. as the Bulldogs won the finale 10-0 in five innings. Bradshaw was also 2-for-3 at the plate with three RBIs.
Cochran went 2-for-2 with two doubles and drove in four runs, while Stewart was 1-for-2 with a double and Smith went 1-for-2 with a double. Stewart, Duncan and Miles Green each had one RBI.
Thomasville will host Brooks County on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
