MOULTRIE, Ga. — A driver of a tractor that was struck from behind Saturday afternoon was in fair condition on Monday at a Tallahassee hospital.
David Wayne Lewis, 52, of Norman Park was airlifted from the scene of the accident on U.S. Highway 319 after the collision.
Lewis was driving a John Deere tractor at about 5:45 p.m. when the accident occurred, according to the Georgia State Patrol.
He was driving north in the outside lane when a 2002 Toyota Tacoma driven by Jose Jimenez struck the rear of the tractor, agency reports said. Lewis was “totally” ejected from the tractor.
Both the tractor and the car came to rest in the roadway.
Lewis was in fair condition Monday afternoon at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital, a hospital spokesman said.
Jimenez was charged with following too closely.
The Saturday accident was the second serious tractor-passenger vehicle crash investigated by law enforcement agencies in as many days.
On the previous morning 17-year-old MaLeah McKenzie Scarberry of Doerun was killed after colliding with a tractor on Sam Sells Road.
