Letter to the editor: We must love everyone

Dear editor,
Regarding Herb Congram’s column, “What do we do with Trump’s supporters after he’s gone?” that ran in the Sunday, July 22 edition of The Tifton Gazette.
Although I accept everyone’s rights to their own opinions and viewpoints it worries me how this man is asking what should be done to those that voted for Trump. As if they need to be punished somehow? This goes against that very basic right to vote in the first place. No one is asking that those who voted for Clinton be “dealt” with so why with Trump?
In the times we are in now, one must be cautious and mindful of the things we say. Even though the writer of the previous said article may not mean for his view point to be used as a go ahead for a violent act on someone in the opposing side, it could very well be seen as such.
Too many times have we faced tragedy because of someone’s ignited anger and hate. Neither side should ever resort to such things. It is well beyond the time to put our past behind us.
Liberals and Democrats all state and claim to want everyone to be of their own free will and choice, but the second they are told no or find someone who disagrees with them, they act out like a spoiled child in the store who isn’t allowed the candy they desire.
Instead of fighting and attacking one another for our differences, embrace them and love them! Haven’t we learned yet after all this time that it simply won’t work to fight against one another?
We are all unique and all of us have our own thoughts and beliefs, and that is okay. It doesn’t make any of us less than one another. Love Thy Neighbor isn’t literal. We must love everyone, even if it means finding just one small piece of them and holding onto that.
