MOULTRIE, Ga. — Moultrie police arrested a suspect wanted in the robbery of the Subway restaurant on West Central Avenue Oct. 9.
Leo Jeroid Hightower, 32, 224 Second St. N.W., was charged Monday with armed robbery in connection with that case as well as an unrelated probation violation. A booking report was made available from the Colquitt County Jail on Thursday.
Hightower is accused of walking into the 100 W. Central Ave. Subway at about 7:15 on Oct. 9, handing the clerk a letter demanding money and threatening to harm an employee if he did not hand over the money.
“He walked in and handed the clerk a letter demanding the money,” Moultrie Police Department Lt. Freddie Williams told The Observer shortly after the robbery. “He never brandished one (weapon) but threatened the clerk if he didn’t cooperate.”
The Subway robbery is one of several that have been reported recently, but the others have generally involved multiple offenders, guns and physical violence; most of those robberies targeted Latinos, especially farmworkers.
