MOULTRIE, Ga. — An investigation into guns stolen Monday night from a Moultrie pawn shop led to the arrests of four men, three of whom also were booked on felony drug charges after police found marijuana and prescription pills at the house they searched for the weapons.

The burglars allegedly used the confusion during the aftermath of Tropical Storm Irma to break into American Pawn on First Avenue Southeast when electricity was off in much of the city, Moultrie Police Department Lt. Freddie Williams said.

“They were taking advantage of the storm,” he said.

To gain entry to the pawn store, the burglars made a hole in the wall of the business, clambered up an inside wall and came down inside the store, Williams said.

The investigation led officers to the 207 Eighth St. S.W. residence of Khalifa Moore, Williams said.

“We were at 207 Eighth Street to recover stolen guns,” he said. “When we encountered these subjects on the front porch of the residence, that’s when we found a quantity of marijuana that was packaged for sale and a quantity of pills.”

The pills were prescription Xanax, he said.

The Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the investigation, he said.

Moore, 20, along with Quandarious Ballard, 20, 1316 W. Central Ave., and Jaquarious Taylor, 20, 1609 15th Ave. S.W., were each charged with burglary, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of a Schedule IV controlled substance and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

Jelani Taylor, 25, 1608 15th Ave. S.W., was charged with burglary and three counts theft by receiving stolen property.
