Suwannee catcher Sam McMillan was named a second-team All-American by Baseball America last week.

LIVE OAK — His professional career is already underway, but former Suwannee High School star Sam McMillan is still garnering honors for his work with the Bulldogs.

Last week, Baseball America named McMillan a second-team high school All-American.

McMillan hit .494 for SHS this spring with seven home runs and 30 RBIs. The fifth-round pick in June’s MLB Draft by the Detroit Tigers, the catcher also stole five bases.

That capped a prep career for McMillan in which he hit .348 with 10 home runs and 83 RBIs as a four-year starter for the Bulldogs.

After getting picked 155th overall in the draft on June 13, McMillan signed with the Tigers on June 21 for a $1 million signing bonus to bypass his college commitment to the University of Florida.
