In support of Unity in the Community

Several groups are coming together this afternoon for the second annual Unity in the Community event.

Organizer Ucher Dent said the event is to “unify the community through fellowship and love of Jesus Christ and football.”

There are no better ways to bring a community together.

We wholeheartedly endorse an endeavor that seeks to bring people together for good causes.

Last year’s inaugural event drew around 200 people, organizers said, and we hope today’s can bring an even bigger crowd.

Those who go will get to hear speakers from different ethnic backgrounds, and we think it’s important that a diverse set of voices is heard. Unity in the Community got its start after a forum on racial barriers and we hope this occasion can help bridge whatever divides there are.

With the start of the school year impending, there also will be back-to-school supplies and information on such important and pressing topics as bullying.

The Unity in the Community event is set to start at 3 p.m. at the Remington Avenue ball fields.

We hope this event continues into the future and we hope there are plenty of our residents who want to take part.
