THOMASVILLE — Thomasville City school officials are proposing to the leave the school district’s millage rate unchanged.
The Thomasville City School Board adopted a tentative rate of 17.869 mills Wednesday morning.
The tentative rate remained the same from the previous year.
Chief Financial Officer Mary Townsend noted the city school system is estimated to receive $11.3 million in property tax revenues, according to the 2017 tax digest.
The rollback rate came in higher than the millage rate at 17.942.
The result was a difference of $46,422, Townsend said, noting the difference could be the potential decrease in tax revenue.
Prior to approving the tentative rate, board member John Everett questioned the cause of the reduction in the Thomasville’s tax digest.
The 2017 tax digest saw a decrease to $635 million from $653 million due to the closure of the Caterpillar plant.
The city school board is expected to adopt the final millage rate at the Aug. 22 regular board meeting.
