TOSAC to present ‘The Little Mermaid’

Thomasville On Stage and Company’s summer program includes two shows. “The Little Mermaid Jr.” will e presented by the students and “Kitchen” will be cast as adults.

“The Little Mermaid” follows the traditional story line of the Disney movie version. The Little Mermaid wants to live on land. She falls in love with Prince Eric an makes a bad bargain with Ursula, the sea witch, trading her beautiful voice for a pair of legs.

The show is under the drama direction of Pat Orr, assisted by Kimsey Hodge. The musical direction is under Risa Young, assisted by Jule Padgett. The show is choreographed by Emily White.

Because of the huge amount of talent, the lead roles have been double cast but everyone is in every show. Ariel is played by Marion Rose Young (cast A) and Emily Brooks (cast B). The sea witch Ursula is cast in A as Julianna Watson and in B as Allison Wheeler. King Triton will be played by Jax Hodge and Prince Eric will be played by Trammell Thompson. 

A cast of 43 completes the ensemble consisting  of students from ages 5 to 18. A highlight of the show is the mermaid sisters with their baby sisters singing “She’s In Love.” Another great scene is all the sea creatures, along with Flounder, Hogan Watson and Maddie Cubb and Sebastian, played by Jama Rodda and Ransom Young singing “Under the Sea.”

Orr says that the challenges creating sets under the construction of Bo Miller. Costumes for all the characters also presented a problem. But due to a creative staff, all challenges have been conquered.

Cast A for “The Little Mermaid Jr.” shows are Friday, June 23 at 8 p,m., Saturday, June 24 at 8 p.m. and Sunday matinee June 25 is at 2 p.m. Cast B shows are Thursday, June 22 at 8 p.m., Saturday matinee June 24 at 2 p.m. and Sunday June 25 at 8 p.m. at the Storefront Theater.
