MOULTRIE, Ga. — A Moultrie trucking company was the victim Saturday night of a thief who brought his own big rig to hook up and haul away a trailer full of furniture.

Surveillance video taken at Broadleaf Trucking, 3333 Freedom Lane, shows the truck arriving at about 10:34 p.m. and leaving with the trailer, said Sgt. Chris Robinson, an investigator with the Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office.

“During the night a semi (tractor truck) unknown to the employees came onto the lot and pulled off with a fully loaded truck containing about $15,000 worth of furniture,” he said.

The missing trailer was valued at $8,000.

“We think somebody came to the business earlier and checked out the trailers,” Robinson said. “They picked the one they wanted, and later they came back and got it.”

The last location police have for the stolen trailer was when it turned and headed north on Veterans Parkway.

While a theft like this is not common, neither are they unheard of in the county.

Over the past several years thieves driving big rigs have plucked several John Deere farm tractors from fields or other rural locations and disappeared with them in the dark of night. Those cases have not been solved.
