THOMASVILLE — Thomasville’s baseball team only had three hits in its first region game of the year.

Turns out that’s all it needed.

Taking advantage of numerous mistakes and a solid pitching performance, the Bulldogs overcame an early hole and took a 6-5 win over Early County on Tuesday night.

The Bulldogs did not get off to a great start, with the Bobcats striking first with a 3-run home run from LD Teal in the top of the first. Undeterred, Thomasville began its comeback in the next frame, with JT Rice coming home on a throw to second after stealing third.

Thomasville tied the game in the third, with Jimmy Cipriani and Rice scoring on a error-filled play for the Bobcats. After a throw to third to catch Cipriani went awry, the eventual throw back home to catch Rice flew over the catcher’s head, leading to both runners scoring.

With the game tied at 3-3, the Bulldogs took their first lead at 5-3 in the next inning, on a bases-loaded walk and a sacrifice fly to score Buck Bennett and Harrison Stewart.

After Thomasville added an extra insurance run in the fifth, Early finally cracked the scoreboard once again in the sixth, scoring two on a Bulldog fielding error in left. Dalton Dollar, who ended his night with a complete game win on the mound, was able to shut down the Bobcats for the final three outs, securing the close victory.

Thomasville will travel to Early County for a doubleheader on Friday.
