Runners participate in Heritage walk and fun run

Jerger Elementary students pose after participating in the Heritage one-mile run Saturday. The school produced the most children to take part in the event.

The annual Heritage 5K Walk and One-Mile Fun Run was held in downtown Thomasville on Saturday morning, with over 325 attendees participating.

The event, which was sponsored by the Thomasville YMCA and Commercial Bank, took participants walking or running through courses that cut through some of the city’s historic districts. The proceeds of the races went to benefit summer camp scholarships at the YMCA.

The overall winner of the walk was Cameron Stephens, the male winner, who finished with a time of 33:04. The walk’s female winner was Nancy Herring, with a time of 33:54.

For the children’s’ one-mile run, Parker Beckham was the male winner, finishing in 6:16, while Madison Leach was the female winner with a time of 6:54.

Jerger Elementary was the school with the highest number of participants in the run.
