Travis Mitchell receives Silver Beaver Award

The Suwannee River Council of the Boy Scouts of America recently presented Travis Mitchell of Thomasville the Silver Beaver Award.

The award is the highest council level distinguished service award of the Boy Scouts of America.

It is given to registered adult leaders who have made an impact on the lives of youth through service given to the council.

Mitchell has 23 years of Scouting service and has served as assistant venturing coach, assistant Scoutmaster, Scoutmaster, unit commissioner and den leader.

He currently serves as Cubmaster for Pack 309, chartered by the Thomasville Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

He has received his Scouting religious award, the Scouter’s Training Award, Key Award, Wood Badge and Thunderbird District Award of Merit. Upon receiving the Silver Beaver award, Mitchell said “I love Scouting.”

He also noted that he has been active in Scouting even though he has three daughters and no sons.

The Council regards Mitchell’s commitment to Scouting and his longevity in the program as a testament to the positive impact that Scouting can have on youth in the community.
