MEIGS — A Meigs City Council member remains in her council seat, despite resigning less than three weeks ago.
Stephanie Battle’s attempted resignation was addressed at Tuesday’s council meeting.
On Dec. 29, Battle initially resigned from the Meigs council in an email addressed to City Attorney Tom Lehman.
Meigs Mayor Cheryl Walters stated in correspondence to Battle that per the city’s charter, a resignation has to be brought forth to the council.
Lehman confirmed the process during the meeting.
Battle rescinded her resignation.
“Since my resignation wasn’t good enough, I decided to stay,” Battle said, which drew negative comments among the audience. Around 20 attendees were present for the monthly council meeting.
Battle is one of three council members with less than a year remaining on the term.
