CAIRO — History came full circle in Grady County with the appointments of the board of commissioners chairman and vice chairman on Tuesday.
Elwyn Childs, currently the longest-serving commissioner, took a page from the county’s history book after being appointed board chairman.
Childs described the background of his and Commissioner Ray Prince’s fathers forming a livestock association, and how they are following their fathers’ footsteps in serving Grady County.
“Here we are now,” Childs said of himself and Prince.
Commissioner LaFaye Copeland motioned to appoint Childs, with T.D. David seconding.
Childs was vice chairman under former Chairman Charlie Norton, who retired in December.
Prince was appointed as vice chairman, with David providing the first motion and Copeland seconding.
Newly-elected Commissioner Keith Moye was unanimously appointed as the board’s Southwest Georgia Regional Commission representative.
In reappointments, both Carrie Croy and Kevin Cauley were appointed as county clerk and county attorney, respectively.
Copeland and David also were reappointed as 911 committee representatives.
