THOMASVILLE — A Thomasville teen has been charged with statutory rape in an incident police say took place at a local residence in early April.
Samuel Alan Teehee, 18, 126 Maury St., surrendered Friday morning at the Thomasville Police Department. He was charged with misdemeanor statutory rape and released on his own recognizance.
The victim, 15, told someone at the Scholars Academy about the incident, and her parents had learned about it, Thomasville Police Department Detective Scott Newberry said.
The Scholars Academy school resource officer did the initial report and turned it over to Newberry.
“And that’s how we got involved in it,” the detective said.
He said the incident took place during a party on Saturday, April 8, at a Thomasville residence.
“There were no parents there,” the detective said. “Parents did not know it was going on.”
The victim underwent a forensic interview and forensic medical examination by trained personnel at The Treehouse, a Thomasville facility.
The four people attending the party have been interviewed.
Newberry said a misdemeanor statutory rape charge resulted because there are less than four years of age between the victim and the suspect.
“It has to be four years or under to be a misdemeanor,” he said. A felony charge results if there are more than four years of age between the victim and suspect.
No one under the age of 16 can, according to Georgia law, consent to a sex act.
Newberry said the sheriff’s office took Teehee into custody when he surrendered and took him to the jail.
