Thomas W. Davis Sr.

AMERICUS — Thomas W. Davis Sr., 90, of 2001 S. Lee St. in Americus, died Tuesday morning, July 25, 2006, in Sumter Regional Hospital.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in the Martha McDonald Moore Memorial Chapel at Magnolia Manor in Americus, with the Rev.. John Brodess and the Rev. Dennis Stalvey officiating. Interment services will follow at 3:30 p.m. on Friday at Riverview Cemetery in Valdosta with the Rev. Craig Rikard and the Rev. Brooks Partain officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Hancock Funeral Home. The casket will be open for viewing from 10:15 a.m. until funeral time in the chapel at Magnolia Manor prior to the service.

Grandsons and nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Born June 28, 1916, in Floyd County, Mr. Davis was a son of the late Judson Clement Davis and Mattie Maude King Davis.

He served with the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and was a participant in the China-Burma-India campaign. He was a member of the Air Force Reserves for more than 20 years, attaining the rank of lieutenant colonel. He worked at Moody Air Force Base from 1951 until 1976, serving as a jet mechanic and section foreman of the shop. He was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.

Mr. Davis, a loving, caring and wonderful husband, family member and friend, was a devout Christian. He had been active in Methodist churches in every location where he lived, probably serving in every capacity of church work, including choir membership, Sunday School participation, and other leadership roles. At the time of his death, he was a member of the Park Avenue Methodist Church in Valdosta, and attended church and Sunday School at Magnolia Manor, serving as president of the Sunday School class.

Survivors include his wife of more than 63 years, Julia Talley Davis; two daughters and a son-in-law, Donna Davis Whiddon of White House, Tenn., and Jana Ruth Davis Douglas and her husband James of Boulder City, Nev.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Rev. Thomas W. Davis Jr. and his wife Pamela of Albany and Timothy L. Davis and his wife Theresa of Carrollton; a sister and brother-in-law, Betty Davis Wilson and her husband Clem of Bedford, Texas; two sisters-in-law, Martha M. Davis of Asheville, N.C., and Ethel Talley of Tifton; eight grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the League of the Good Samaritan, Magnolia Manor, 2001 S. Lee St., Americus, GA 31709 or to the building fund of Park Avenue United Methodist Church, 100 E. Park Ave., Valdosta, GA 31602.



Larry Fulghum

OMEGA — Robbie Larry Fulghum, 62, of Omega, died Tuesday, July 25, 2006, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the chapel of Albritton-Beaumont Funeral Directors with the Rev. Zac Kea, Mike Harrison and Randy Carter officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Albritton-Beaumont Funeral Directors.

Rusty Giles, Kyle Giles, Jackie Crumley, Jerry Crumley, John Fletcher and Bob Gilliard will serve as pallbearers with Johnny Johnson, James Harris, Marcus Webb, Ed Johnson and Steve Tucker serving as honorary pallbearers.

Born Sept. 2, 1943, in Dublin to the late Robbie “Shorty” Fulghum and Mary Jane Horton Fulghum, Mr. Fulghum was also preceded in death by two sisters, Janie Massey and Hazel Shinholster.

Mr. Fulghum was a lifetime resident of Omega where he was the owner of Omega Steel Works. He was the first metal fabricator to design and manufacture golf course sprig planters and seed harvesters used by domestic and international turf grass operations. He was of the Baptist faith. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, was an avid NASCAR fan and pulled for Mark Martin. He loved spending time with his dog, “Jake.”

Mr. Fulghum is survived by one daughter and one son-in-law, Deborah and Duck Smith of Omega; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Mike and DeeDee Fulghum, Jeff Fulghum and Stephen and Charee Fulghum, all of Tifton; one sister, Betty F. Turner of Jacksonville, Fla.; and five grandchildren, Ross Fulghum, Austin Smith, Karli Smith, Lauren Fulghum and Emma Cate Fulghum.

Vinson Harper

THE VILLAGES, Fla.—Vinson Harper, 81, of The Villages, died Tuesday, July 25, 2006, in Baltimore, Md.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Chapel of Lovein Funeral Home. The Rev. Scott King will officiate. Burial will follow at Nashville Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 tonight at Lovein Funeral Home.

Mr. Harper was born on May 15, 1925, in Berrien County. He was the son of Charlie Harper and Alice Whitley, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Hendley Harper, who died in 2000.

He was a member of First Baptist Church in Milton, Fla., and a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in World War II.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Hal and Kathy Harper of Niceville, Fla., and Hugh Harper of Tequesta, Fla.; two grandchildren, Jordan Harper and Hannah Harper; two sisters, Floried Hogan of Nashville and Jean Rowe of Crescent Beach, Fla.; and two brothers, Leroy Harper and Marshall Harper, both of Nashville.

Doris Cribb Hiers

ADEL — Doris Cribb Hiers, 78, of Adel, died Wednesday, July 26, 2006, at her residence.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Boone-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel. Elder Buck Wood will officiate. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Boone-Lipsey Funeral Home.

Mrs. Hiers was born on July 9, 1928, in Berrien County. She lived most of her life in Cook County. She was the daughter of Jessie Leonard Luke and Mary Jane Register Luke, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Charles R. Cribb.

She attended Concord Primitive Baptist Church and was a retired hairdresser.

Survivors include her husband, Paul Hiers of Adel; two daughters and sons-in-law, Judy Tripp Annis and Gene of Adel and Roma Joe and Sandy Cooper of Poulan; two stepsons, Steve Hiers of Tampa, Fla., and David Hiers of Adel; two stepdaughters, Teresa Hiers Jones and John of Moultrie and Phyllis and Mike England of Charleston, S.C.; a brother, Jessie Marlin Luke of Valdosta; a sister, Inez Exum of Nashville; grandchildren, Ricky and Sherrie Tripp, Tracy and Timmy Browning, Steve and Brenda Newbern, all of Hahira, and Susan and Al Miller of Lee, Fla.; eight great-grandchildren; 14 stepgrandchildren; and five stepgreat-grandchildren.

Irene Hale

TIFTON — Irene Hale, 67, of Tifton, died Saturday, July 22, 2006, at Tift Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Albritton-Beaumont Funeral Directors, with the Rev. William J. Sumner officiating. Burial followed at Tift Memorial Gardens.

Gary Hyde, Dalon Dotson, Jimmy Luke, Ricky Purvis, Larry Clark, Jason Hale, Jacob Hale and Buck Dixon will serve as pallbearers.

Born April 27, 1939, in Webster County, Miss., to the late George T. Dotson and Minnie K. Dotson, Mrs. Hale was also preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Hale, who died in December 2004, and two sisters, Ruby Casey and Dot Luke.

Mrs. Hale had lived in Tift County most of her life and was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith. She loved her family and friends and was a special caretaker for many.

Mrs. Hale is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law, York and Gail Hale of Tifton and Greg Hale of Enigma; three daughters and three sons-in-law, Daphine and Danny Dixon of Monroe, Shelia and George Sutton of Fullerton, Calif., and Kim and Ricky Purvis of Tifton; one brother and one sister-in-law, William and Betty Dotson of Tifton; one sister, Ruth Hyde of Tifton; her grandchildren, Lisa Conger, Jacob Hale, Jason Hale, Dallas Purvis, Austin Purvis, Buck Dixon, Nicole Hale, Greg Hale Jr., Tangel Dixon and Danny Dixon Jr.; and her great-grandchildren, Dalton Conger, Dakota Conger and Jake Hale.
