Services for Deacon Carlton Curry, 59, 75 Jones Road, Thomasville, are at noon, Saturday, March 28, 2015, at Aucilla Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Lonnie Robinson Jr. officiating. Active pallbearers are members of Aucilla Masonic Lodge. Mr. Curry died Monday, March, 23, 2015, at John D. Archbold Memorial Hospital. He was a member of Aucilla Missionary Baptist Church and Aucilla Masonic Lodge. On Nov. 3, 1955, in Newark N.J., the life of Carlton Curry began. He was a son of the late Hazel McCray Curry and the late Earnest Curry Sr. Carlton spent his first two years in Newark and the next 57 years in Thomas County, where he attended Thomas County Schools. He worked as a senior shipping clerk at Hercules Bumpers in Pelham for 25 years. He participated in volunteer work at Safe Haven and served on the board of trustees. Carlton was a cheerful giver to whomever in need. He was a caregiver for his brother, Alford “Billy” Curry. Carlton’s favorite hobbies were recycling metals, singing and cooking. Carlton joined Aucilla Missionary Baptist Church at an early age under the leadership of the Rev. W.L. Henry where he served faithfully until the end. He was an ordained deacon where he later became chairman of the deacon board. He also was a member of the Aucilla M.B. Church Male Choir and president of Sunday School. Carlton was a member of Aucilla OES (Order of Eastern Star) Chapter No. 1. On March 23, 2015, at 11:35 p.m., God was looking for a new angel and plucked Carlton as he slept and took him to his eternal heavenly home. He is survived by a sister, Mae France Curry, Thomasville; brother, Earnest Curry Jr., Bartow, Fla., brother and wife, Charlie Curry (Jeanette), Thomasville; sister, Helen Curry Rouse, Tampa, Fla.; sister and husband, Hazel D. Franklin (Hosea Jr.), Thomasville; brother, Herman Curry, Thomasville; sister and husband, Gail E. Rogers (Allen), Tampa Fla.; brothers, Clifford Curry, Alford B. Curry, both of Thomasville; brothers and wives, Herbert Brinson (Mary), Thomasville, Edward J. Brinson (Bonita), Beachton; brother, Daniel E. Curry, Thomasville; aunt and husband, Ira Lee Richardson (Jasper), Delray Beach, Fla.; aunts, Doris Smith, Boston, Betty Coleman, Thomasville; uncle and aunt, Alfred McCray (Alice Mae), Thomasville; devoted friends, Jerry Coleman, Moultrie, Lee Griffin, Patrick Smith, Thomasville; a sister-in-law and a brother-in-law preceded him in death. He leaves a total of 40 nieces and nephews and a host of great-nieces and -nephews; cousins; other friends; and the Aucilla Missionary Baptist Church Family. Remains will lie in state at the church from 11 a.m. until the funeral hour. There will be no viewing after the eulogy. The family will receive friends after the service at Aucilla Missionary Baptist Church annex. Relatives and friends are asked to meet at 308 Plum St. at 10:45 a.m. for the processional.
